Project and Property Management Accountant
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our team. - Responsible for accounting activities for assigned portfolio (32 affordable housing properties by the end of 2020)
- Regularly collaborate with property management staff and corporate staff on all aspects of accounting, from workflow to policies and procedures to staff training
- Prepare and maintain monthly general and standard journal entries
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and perform analytical review for reasonableness
- Responsible for regular review and analysis of tenant ledgers, including subledgers and corresponding reconciliations. Work with property management staff to develop action plans to correct ledger errors or to provide missing information
- Attend monthly meetings with corporate property management staff and asset management teams and provide accounting-related insights real-time
- Responsible for monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for government agencies and investors
- Oversee A/R, A/P, and bank reconciliations and work with property management staff to develop action plans to correct errors or to provide missing information
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide requested information in a timely manner
- Maintain electronic and paper reporting back up per organization protocol
- Assist property management staff with developing accounting-related training material
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years accounting experience, preferable in real estate or property management
- Experience with Yardi or other property management software
- Experience in the affordable housing industry highly preferred
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to complete projects
- Organizational and strong time-management skills with the ability to regularly shift priorities as needed
- Strong communication skills for regular coordination with site staff and corporate staff
- Experience processing A/R and A/P according to established timelines
- Ability to efficiently learn and use computers and accounting software for accounting functions
- Experience analyzing reports, ledgers and processes to evaluate for accuracy and recommend corrective actions
