Construction to Begin at Fort Snelling Upper Post
Minneapolis, MN
————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
One of Minneapolis’s most important, historic sites, Fort Snelling Upper Post will soon be redeveloped into 204 affordable housing units. The community consists of 26 different buildings, and will feature 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 bedroom apartment homes. Amenities will include a pool, club room, business center, fitness center, playground and more. Originally built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, the site was the point of departure for thousands of Minnesota soldiers during the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. It was the site of the Japanese language school for the entire U.S. Military from 1944 to 1946. Since 1971, the site has been managed by the DNR Division of Parks and Trails.
