OSHA’s National Safety Stand Down!
Did you know falls are the leading cause of death among construction workers accounting for 37 percent of deaths in the industry? 55% of fatal falls come from heights of 20 feet or less. This is why, each year, Weis participates in OSHA’s National Safety Stand Down campaign to prevent falls in construction and ensure the safety of our sites and workers. We kicked off the campaign this week with two stand downs in Minnesota and one in Dallas with many more to come in the next two weeks. Pictured here is John Cano from our safety partner, SFI Compliance, Inc. speaking with our crew at the Farmers Market project in Dallas. Stand Downs consist of stopping work, feeding the crew, and delivering the life-saving message on fall prevention. CPWR Research Analyst Gavin West stated “It is estimated that the Safety Stand Down events have reached more than 5 million workers (including those without certificates) across the nation in a three year period, vitally raising public awareness of the risk of falls and importance of fall prevention in the construction industry. ”
